Learning to navigate anxiety and depression can feel very difficult when it just won’t seem to budge! Anxiety can swarm like bees and almost flood your body with fear and worry. Those everyday distractions such as worrying about work, money, relationships or that funny noise the car has been making. Sometimes the list just seems endless and can leave us unmotivated and hopeless.

Those kind of feelings are tough to deal with, even if validated and gently challenged by a therapist.

Sometimes, just picking up a pen, pencil, paintbrush, needle and thread or logging onto our computer to create something can be very therapeutic. Unleashing our creative side gives out mind to focus on something specific, something that releases all the pressure of the worry and anxiety in our body and mind, allowing our attention to focus on making something. This could be a painting, a drawing, mindful colouring, music or a garment.

Stepping back and looking at your finished project that you have carefully taken time to complete can be fulfilling, feel like an accomplishment and can also be motivating.

The next time you feel low or anxious, stop what you’re doing, don’t force yourself so it becomes overwhelming – change your focus of thought onto something that releases you from that pressure.
